As Brickyard Park remediation continues, officials ban fishing over lingering contamination fears

WADSWORTH, Ohio – Cleaning up of the former Brickyard site into a 200-acre public park and athletic complex is moving forward, but lingering environmental concerns led officials to ban fishing in any of the site’s ponds.

At a Monday Public Ways Committee meeting, Service Director Matt Hiscock said the city plans to prohibit fishing across the entire park, including a large pond that will serve as a focal point for new recreational trails.

“I think we’re prohibiting fishing in the entire park because of the unknowns,” Hiscock said. “We did not test those particular water areas, but I can tell you, for instance, we pulled a vehicle out of one of those areas, and we certainly pulled out interesting items from those other ponds…
