CANTON, Ohio (WOIO) – Three people are hospitalized after being ejected from a car as it flipped over and crashed into a Canton pond, firefighters confirmed.
The Canton Fire Department said their crews were sent to the crash in the 4000 block of Market Avenue N around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Dispatch reported the car struck and sheared off a utility poll, went off the road, and overturned into a nearby pond, CFD stated.
Crews arrived to find the car upside down in the water, said CFD, and all three males who were ejected were on the shoreline.
“This could have been much worse, especially with the two being ejected out of the windshield. It is amazing that they were alive when we arrived on scene,” said Canton Fire Chief, Steve Henderson.
CFD said first responders treated the three and took them to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.
“To mitigate environmental impact, crews deployed containment booms across the pond to control fluids leaking from the vehicle,” CFD explained.
