Man pleads guilty in fatal Halloween party shooting in Summit County

SUMMIT COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) — A man has pleaded guilty for his part in a fatal shooting that took place at a 2024 Halloween party in Springfield Township, the Summit County Prosecutor’s Office announced Wednesday.

Man sentenced for killing family dog in Fairview Park

Terrance Williams, 25, of Canton pleaded guilty to the following counts Tuesday, according to prosecutors, for the death of 40-year-old Brian Cofer:

  • One count of Involuntary Manslaughter with a 3-Year Firearm Specification
  • Two counts of Felonious Assault

The shooting took place during Halloween weekend in 2024. Springfield Township Police officers said they were called to the 1400 block of Canton Road for reports of a fight after multiple people crashed the party.

Upon arrival, police said they found Cofer dead from a gunshot wound. Other people were also injured at the scene, including two who had been pistol-whipped and sustained head injures and another who had broken ribs.

Prosecutors said it was Williams who shot Cofer, as identified via video footage and witness testimony. Williams reportedly was attempting to remove Cofer from the party with a barstool when Williams shot him…
