Jim Furlong, who opened the shop on Halloween in 1989, has sold the business to Jim Kaufman. Furlong describes him as a voracious record collector.
Kaufman started shopping at Last Vestige when he was only 14 years old. He’s also a local drummer for the band Hot Cousin, and earned a music degree from The College of Saint Rose.
He said he’s excited to step into the ownership role. His passion to keep the turntables spinning began even before Furlong gathered his team and expressed his desire to step away from the business and spend time with his retiring wife.
“It’s something I’ve been wanting for a long time, first when I was an employee, even before that, as a customer,” Kaufman said. “I never really thought it would happen, but it’s something that’s been on my mind for decades. So to finally have it happen is like a dream come true.”
