Barn where horses died didn’t have fire suppression system, official says

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (WRGB) — The barn where 17 horses were killed early Tuesday morning didn’t have a fire suppression system.

Sarah Burger, a Saratoga County supervisor and counsel for the Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association, tells CBS6 there is no requirement at this time for sprinklers. However, she says there were talks at a meeting in Saratoga County on Tuesday about putting forth some legislation to require them.

As CBS6 has been reporting, the fire broke out at the Saratoga Harness Track around 2:30 Tuesday morning. An 18th horse in the barn escaped with minor injuries…
