GHENT, N.Y. (NEWS10) — A Chatham man is dead following a head-on crash in the town of Ghent on Monday, according to New York State Police. The incident reportedly occurred on State Route 66.

Police were dispatched to the scene at about 2:20 p.m. following a report of a head-on crash involving two vehicles. An investigation found that a Honda was traveling southbound on Route 66 when it crossed into the northbound lane and struck a northbound Mazda.
Both drivers were taken to Albany Medical Center and the driver of the Honda, identified as 81-year-old Jere Wrightsman, later died due to his injuries, police said. The other driver’s injuries reportedly appeared to be non-life-threatening.
