One dead after car crash in Greenfield

GREENFIELD, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) is investigating a fatal car crash in Greenfield. The crash happened around 4:15 a.m. on Friday.

Detectives determined that a woman left Saratoga Hospital on Friday morning and allegedly stole a car from Seward Street in Saratoga Springs. The driver then turned onto Denton Road before reportedly colliding with a tree near the intersection with Locust Grove Road.

The SCSO stated that the vehicle ignited as a result of the crash, and that the woman was declared dead at the scene. Law enforcement confirmed that the crash victim, whose name has not yet been released, was the car’s only occupant.

The Sheriff’s Office’s Criminal Investigation and Accident Reconstruction Units are heading the ongoing investigation. Saratoga Springs Police, New York State Police, the Saratoga Springs and Greenfield Fire Departments, the Saratoga County Coroner’s Office, and the Saratoga County Deputy Fire Coordinator assisted deputies with the operation.
