SCHENECTADY — City police are cracking down on so-called “pop-up parties” at properties that lack the proper permits or licenses as Mayor Gary McCarthy considers proposing new fees for violations.
McCarthy said the parties happen “almost every weekend” and can have vendors selling alcohol and cannabis without the required permits. He describes the parties, which can rake in large profits, as essentially bars with no regulatory oversight.
“They’re charging people money. They make a huge amount, and it draws business off from legitimate places who are playing by the rules,” McCarthy said…
