29 deputies sue Rensselaer County in federal court over back pay

TROY — Highway patrol deputies are suing Rensselaer County over allegations that the sheriff’s office held back overtime compensation over the past three years.

In a 17-page lawsuit filed June 9 in the U.S. Northern District of New York, 29 Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office employees are seeking the back pay, which, according to them, was withheld in violation of federal regulations and improperly tabulated.

United Public Service Employees Union, the parent union for the Rensselaer County Deputy Sheriff’s Police Benevolent Association, is funding legal representation from McGillivary Steele Elkin, a firm based in Washington, D.C…
