Update: Penny-sized hail expected with thunderstorms to hit Capital Region, Hudson Valley Sunday

The National Weather Service issued an updated weather alert at 1:42 p.m. on Sunday for strong thunderstorms until 2:15 p.m. for Greene, Columbia and Dutchess counties.

Wind gusts of up to 40 mph and penny-sized hail (0.75 inches) are probable.

“At 1:41 p.m., Doppler radar tracked a strong thunderstorm over Claverack-Red Mills, or over Hudson, moving southeast at 25 mph,” says the weather service. “Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.”…
