Redevelopment plan could clear way for demolition of 17 former Saint Rose buildings

ALBANY — The county-backed land authority that owns much of the former College of Saint Rose campus is seeking a developer to carry out the largest transformation of the site since the college closed two years ago.

The first phase of the Albany County Pine Hills Land Authority’s “Reimagine Saint Rose” initiative calls for redeveloping a 3.27-acre tract at the corner of Western Avenue and Partridge Street. A successful proposal could lead to the demolition of as many as 17 former college buildings.

The authority’s 33-page request for proposals seeks “a qualified developer who possesses the creativity, vision and capacity required to construct an ambitious development project befitting the prominent Pine Hills location.” The authority envisions “a mix of public and private spaces set among newly constructed, mixed-use buildings offering a combination of retail and multifamily housing.”…
