Schenectady school administrator accused of taking photo of graduate’s ankle monitor resigns

SCHENECTADY — The Schenectady school administrator accused of snapping a photo of a student’s ankle monitor on graduation day and sharing it in a group text message is resigning, according to board of education documents.

Sara Straub started in September as an assistant principal at Big Picture Learning after moving from Hoosic Valley, where she was also an administrator, according to school announcements. Straub was accused of taking a photo of a graduate’s ankle monitor and sharing it in a group text message during the school district’s June graduation ceremony. Witnesses told the Times Union that they watched as members of the chat responded to the text with mocking comments and emojis. The story was first reported by the Daily Gazette.

When reached Friday about Straub’s resignation, district spokesperson Karen Corona said she would “not confirm or comment on personnel matters.”…
