City of Troy to host free at-home bulk pickup

TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The city of Troy will host a citywide curbside bulk pickup program beginning at the end of July. It will be the first time that the service has been offered since the 1990s, according to officials.

The free, one-time program will only be available to those whose properties receive City of Troy sanitation collection services. Eligible residents can place bulk items on their curb prior to their neighborhood’s scheduled collection date, no registration or appointment required.

“Not everyone has the ability to haul furniture, mattresses, or other bulk items across the city,” said Mayor Carmella Mantello. “That’s why we’re bringing this service directly to our residents’ curbs. This one-time service removes that barrier, makes disposal more convenient, and continues our commitment to building a safer, cleaner Troy.”

Bulk material should be neatly stacked in a pile not to exceed six-feet-by-six-feet, according to the mayor’s office. A full list of acceptable and prohibited items can be found on the City of Troy website.
