JOHNSTOWN, N.Y. (WNYT)- A lawsuit filed by Rensselaer County Sheriff Kyle Bourgault and other sheriff’s across New York, are challenging a new state law that limits when local police can work with federal immigration agents.
The lawsuit was filed Wednesday and says undocumented immigrants have been arrested in crimes across New York, including a homicide, sexual assault and human trafficking case.
It directly responds to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s new Local Cops, Local Crimes Act, which bars local law enforcement from cooperating with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement to support civil immigration detention…
