TROY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Troy Police Department made an arrest last Monday after finding illegal drugs and an illegal handgun on a Troy man. The arrest was made after a Troy police patrol officer was patrolling the downtown area.

At about 2:30 p.m. on September 7, the officer observed an individual who was exhibiting behavior consistent with suspected drug-related activity. He initiated an investigation and requested assistance from detectives assigned to the Special Operations Section.
The patrol officers and detectives used available city camera resources and investigative tools to further develop the circumstances surrounding the individual. Through the coordinated effort, officers developed probable cause to make an arrest.

The individual was identified as 38-year-old Miguel Garcia, of Troy. Authorities found crack cocaine and an illegal handgun after searching Garcia’s bookbag.
He was sent to the Troy Police Department for processing and was arraigned on September 8. Garcia was charged with the following:
- Criminal possession of a narcotic drug in the fourth degree
- Criminal possession of a narcotic drug — intent to sell in the third degree
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree
- Obstructing governmental administration in the second degree
- Improper crossing
