Richard Frederick and his original business partner, Frank DelGallo, opened Wagon Train BBQ about 15 years ago at 671 Mariaville Road in Rotterdam. Frederick told NEWS10 that DelGallo owned the property and after he passed, the building was listed for sale. With the uncertainty of who was going to buy the building, Frederick decided to move the restaurant.
“Another challenge was that much of what people associated with the old Wagon Train—the antiques, memorabilia, taxidermy, firearms collection and other decorations—belonged to the building’s owner and were not mine,” said Frederick. “When I relocated the restaurant, those items had to stay behind.”

Frederick was able to find a spot for the restaurant at Whispering Pines Golf Course at 2200 Helderberg Avenue. They officially opened at the end of July under the name The Club at Whispering Pines.
“Although the location and name have changed, the heart of Wagon Train BBQ has not, good food, great conversations and support our community we love so much,” said Frederick. “We brought our employees, our recipes and all of the Wagon Train favorites our customers have enjoyed for years.”…
