ALBANY, NY — Families across the Capital Region are being urged to take a closer look at youth mentorship programs that use “Big Brothers Big Sisters” language but are not affiliated with the nonprofit, amid concerns about child safety.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Capital Region issued the warning this morning after the organization said it received several phone calls last week about a mentor who was described as one of its “Bigs.” CEO Keila dos Santos said when staff searched the person’s name in the organization’s database, nothing came up.
