NASSAU — Barbara Reina wrote her first newspaper article in 2013 about the Dewey Loeffel landfill, a toxic waste Superfund site where more than 46,000 tons of toxic chemicals were dumped, mostly by the General Electric Co., in a lagoon off Mead Road beginning in the 1950s.
The mass of chemicals dumped was equal to 30,000 cars.
On Sunday, Reina, a journalist and documentary filmmaker who lives in Nassau, will show her film, “Love Canal x 2: A Landfill Dilemma in Nassau, N.Y.” The free screening and Q&A with Reina will be held at 2 p.m. at the Valatie Community Theatre…
