ALBANY — A former inmate at Albany County jail alleges in a federal lawsuit that he suffered a concussion and other injuries when a “gang of jail officers” assaulted him last September in what he contends was an unprovoked attack.
The lawsuit was filed recently on behalf of 36-year-old Leonardo Guzman, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to manslaughter last year in connection with the January 2025 fatal shooting of a man along Central Avenue in Albany.
The civil complaint adds to mounting allegations that groups of correction officers at the Albany County jail have systematically beaten inmates in their cells and in other areas of the facility that are not monitored by surveillance cameras…
