New York state plans to begin a $1.1 million project to replace sequential exit numbers along Interstate 88 with mile-based numbering, a change aimed at helping drivers pinpoint their location and helping emergency responders reach incidents more quickly.
The work was scheduled to begin Sept. 28 and continue through the end of 2026, according to a community announcement. The new exit numbers will correspond to mileage markers on the 117-mile interstate, which stretches across Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Otsego, Schoharie and Schenectady counties.
