The plans to improve rail passage from Boston to Albany come after disruptions to service between the two cities over the past year. Amtrak restored service between Albany-Rensselaer and Boston last December after several months of substitute bus service between the two cities. Now, MassDOT is hosting a virtual meeting on Tuesday to outline next steps of bringing improved rail service to the Boston and Albany corridor.

They say it would improve connections between western and eastern Massachusetts, and while they are currently in the service developmental planning stage, the next step will be preliminary engineering and environmental review. Factors they are looking to improve are speed, frequency and reliability.
