COLONIE, N.Y. (WNYT) — Colonie Police said officers brought a woman to a hospital after a suicide call and the chief is now questioning how she returned to the community within hours.
Chief James Gerace said officers responded at 2:40 a.m. Sept. 25 to a home after the woman called police on herself, said she was injured, said she had a knife and threatened more self-harm. Gerace said dispatchers and officers recognized signs of a “suicide by cop” situation, and EMS was sent at the same time.
During the encounter, Gerace said, the woman came out of the home with the knife and harmed herself in front of officers. He said officers kept distance and cover while also weighing the possibility that other people were inside the home…
