State Police responded to a care facility in Halfmoon around 8:30 p.m. on October 1 after receiving a report regarding an altercation at the property. Detectives determined that Amoakoah, a healthcare aide employed at the facility, allegedly punched and kicked a disabled resident repeatedly before other staff intervened.
Amoakoah left the property before law enforcement arrived to the scene, but she was later located and taken into custody on Thursday in Waterford. She now faces the following charges:
- First-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person
- Second-degree endangering the welfare of an incompetent or physically disabled person
- Third-degree assault
Amoakoah was released after being processed and is expected to appear in Halfmoon Town Court on October 21. NYSP stated that the care facility’s administration and staff have remained cooperative with the investigation.
