Harlingen denounces RGV Human Society after local pets found in NY animal cruelty raid: officials

HARLINGEN, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The City of Harlingen denounced the Rio Grande Valley Humane Society after local animals were found during an animal cruelty raid in New York, officials said.

ValleyCentral received a statement from Harlingen Mayor Norma Sepulveda, in which she cites the city’s decision to not renew the contract with the humane society due to operational practices.

“The recent raid and subsequent arrest of the direction of Empawthy Animal Rescue, the rescue organization used by RGVHS, further validate our concerns,” Sepulveda said.

Godinez’s fate now in the jury’s hands

On Jan. 18, the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society in Menands, New York announced the rescue of 102 animals from an unregistered organization.

According to a news release, MHHS officers obtained a search warrant on Jan. 17. and with assistance from the Colonie Police Department, executed the warrant that same evening. Authorities arrived at a 1,200-square-foot home in Cohoes, where they found “extreme conditions of filth and crowding.”
