Pastors on Patrol walk with Albany police

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Pastors on Patrol walked through neighborhoods with Albany police officers on Tuesday. The partnership between clergy and law enforcement looks to engage community members to work together to prevent violence .

Bishop Avery Comithier said the wintry forecast kept some members from joining him to check in with business owners and residents along New Scotland Avenue, but he said the connection to the people was too important.

“I’ll say, ‘How you doing? You okay?’ because that’s somebody’s son,” he said. “I don’t care what you say about them. That’s somebody’s son or grandson or nephew, and my job is to help him not be in a casket.”

The bishop said he hopes to expand and have members of the Albany County Sheriff’s Department walk the streets with Pastors on Patrol
