MCSO: Student arrested, brought handguns to school

AMSTERDAM, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A 14-year-old was arrested on Tuesday after Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a tip a student had a handgun at Amsterdam High School. Deputies say the suspect also faces a grand larceny charge.

Deputies initiated an investigation in tandem with the Amsterdam City Police. Law enforcement was able to find the suspect off of school property and found they had two handguns. Law enforcement says the handguns were found to be stolen from a home in Amsterdam.

Charges:

  • Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon
  • Criminal possession of a weapon on school grounds
  • Fourth-degree grand larceny
  • Fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon

Police investigating Rensselaer dispensary burglary

The juvenile was arrested and charged. He was later released to his parents.
