Albany Common Council passes resolution to rename street after veteran, barber

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A street in Albany is one step closer to being named after a World War II veteran. The Albany Common Council passed a resolution Tuesday night to name a section of Westerlo Street as Uncle Herm’s Way .

The renaming honors Herman Cockfield, Sr., who ran the Three Star Barbershop. He not only cut hair but provided a safe space where Black men could talk about politics, sports, or anything on their minds.

Council members said the renamed street will keep his name and legacy alive.
