On February 8, 2024, Joshua D. Campbell and Danielle J. Ellis were arrested by the State Police of Latham. They were implicated in a Facebook Marketplace scam and charged with Trademark Counterfeiting, Petit Larceny, Scheme to Defraud, and Attempted Trademark Counterfeiting.

The arrests were made following a complaint from a Saratoga County resident on February 7, 2024. The complainant claimed to have purchased a counterfeit electronic device on Facebook Marketplace. The investigation found that Campbell and Ellis had falsely advertised and sold the device under a counterfeit Apple trademark.

Campbell, 24, from Albany, NY, was arrested in possession of another counterfeit item. He resisted arrest and was taken to SP Latham for processing. Ellis, 23, from Hudson, NY, was also arrested and processed at SP Latham.

Both Campbell and Ellis were given appearance tickets and released. They are due to appear in Albany City Court on February 26 and 27, 2024, respectively.

This case underscores the increasing problem of online scams and the misuse of platforms like Facebook Marketplace. The State Police of Latham is actively investigating such illegal activities.
