On February 14, 2024, Joseph M. Sciancalepore, 19, was arrested by State Police in Freehold, NY. The arrest followed an armed burglary in Westerlo, NY. Sciancalepore was charged with first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree menacing, third-degree assault, and two counts of fourth-degree criminal charges, including mischief and possession of a weapon.
The burglary took place on February 13, 2024. Sciancalepore, armed with a knife, allegedly broke into a Westerlo home. An adult and a 17-year-old were in the house at the time. The adult occupant was injured, and the property was damaged.
Sciancalepore did not use the knife to cause injury. The 17-year-old was not harmed. Sciancalepore, known to the victims, left the scene in a vehicle before the police arrived.
Four hours after the burglary, Sciancalepore was found in Greene, NY, and arrested. He was taken to SP Westerlo for processing.
After his arrest, Sciancalepore appeared at the Westerlo Town Court. He was released under the supervision of the Albany County Probation Department.
