Albany County comptroller weighs in on DA bonus controversy

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Albany County comptroller has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Albany County District Attorney David Soares . The DA used grant money to give himself a bonus.

Comptroller Susan Rizzo said there could be legal issues with the DA’s actions.

“The DA’s salary is, and should be, the same as the county judge salary,” she said. “And if there’s a change in that compensation, it requires a local law. A local law was not done.”

The comptroller said it will be up to the attorney general to decide whether any criminal charges will be filed.

Soares has promised to return the money . He is expected to testify in front of the county legislature at the end of February.
