Pine Hills Businesses react to two movie theatres closing

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — On Friday, two Albany theatres announced that they will be closing their doors. Landmark Spectrum 8 Theatre and The Madison Theatre . Some business owners in the neighborhood say the closure is a loss for the community.

“I kind of thought they might be in trouble with St. Rose leaving and CVS leaving,” Mike Viglucci, Co-owner of Cafe Madison in Pine Hills, said. “I wonder what it’s going to do to the coffee shop and the little restaurant next to it.”

However, the owners of Madison Cafe say they will continue their plans to renovate and invest in their restaurant. At the same time, the owners of Motor Oil Coffee are also focusing on the future.

“We are committed to Pine Hills,” Joe Bonilla, Co-founder of Motor Oil Coffee, said. “I love this neighborhood. I grew up in this neighborhood.”

He also grew up with Jermaine Carter, who now works with him as the President of Motor Oil Coffee.
