Inmate repeatedly called victim with order of protection

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A Latham man is accused of repeatedly calling a person who had an order of protection against him while he was an inmate at the Saratoga County Jail. Matthew Smith, 58, faces multiple new charges.

According to the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Smith is accused of intentionally violating an order of protection by continually calling the person who it was issued for. He did so while he was an inmate at the Saratoga County Jail. Deputies say he was serving time on a previous conviction within the last five years.

Charges:

  • Aggravated family offense
  • Second-degree criminal contempt

Smith was arraigned in Milton Town Court and released to pretrial services pending further action.
