Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley staves off Stillwater

MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Defending Class D champion and New York State runner-up Stillwater gave Class B’s Mechanicville/Hoosic Valley everything it could handle in a tight-knit, Week 0 clash Friday night in Mechanicville.

But MVH managed to prevail, 14-7, after a go-ahead, two-yard touchdown run from quarterback AJ Messercola early in the fourth quarter. The MVH defense fended off Stillwater for the remainder of the quarter to secure the season-opening victory.

MVH (1-0) continues a stretch of four straight home games Friday, Sep. 13, welcoming in Hoosick Falls/Tamarac. Stillwater (0-1) returns home in Week 1, but welcomes in another out-of-class foe: Class C’s Watervliet/Heatly.
