Troy man arrested in relation to drug overdose death

WATERVLIET, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– The Watervliet Police Department arrested a Troy man in connection to a drug related death from August. David Mathes, 27, faces multiple felony drug charges.

On August 30, officers responded to the Highland Club Apartments for a report of an unresponsive 56-year-old, according to police. Investigators on scene learned the victim had died of a drug overdose in the bedroom of the apartment.

Through a further investigation, detectives identified Mathes as the one who allegedly supplied the illicit drugs. On Sept. 3, detectives arrested Mathes with two felonies.

Charges:

  • Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance in the third-degree, a class B felony
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the fourth degree, a class C felony

“The investigation into Mathes is ongoing, and additional charges are anticipated,” Watervliet Police Chief William Rice said. “The unnecessary, tragic loss of life reverberates through families across our nation. The Watervliet Police Department remains unwavering in its pursuit of those who selfishly poison our city. Justice is just a small step toward healing the wounds inflicted by these destructive forces.”
