Postal workers rally, hold nationwide Day of Action

COLONIE, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Postal workers across the country held rallies across the country on Tuesday to demand more from the U.S. Postal Service. Workers are asking for better wages and that the public has a greater say in any changes that are made to the postal service.

The American Postal Workers union said recent cost cutting measures and staffing shortages are impacting mail delivery. With millions of ballots expected to go through post offices in the next month, workers said addressing concerns is vital to reliable service.

“What we are looking at is that we get what we deserve; we are federal employees,” Ibrahim Pedrinan said. “We’ve taken the oath of office. We are going to be moving ballots, and then it’s straight into the holiday season, and that deserves dignity and respect, but monetary rewards as well.”

According to the APWU, the number of clerks has declined by more than 10,000 over the past two decades.
