Cohoes man pleads guilty in infant’s death

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 )– Anthony Ojeda pleaded guilty in court Friday to manslaughter in connection to the death of a six-week-old baby in 2019. Neil Garzon, Ojeda’s husband, is also expected to plead guilty later today.

In June, Ojeda was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of his son, who was found dead after ingesting meth. A plea deal was then offered to him in August.

Ojeda and Garzon reportedly fled the country to avoid prosecution after the child, Eli Ojeda was found unresponsive in an apartment by Cohoes Police on December 3, 2019. The child died at the hospital. An autopsy determined the baby died of acute methamphetamine toxicity and physical trauma.

In January, law enforcement agents captured Ojeda and Garzon in Mexico. Both men were then extradited back to New York for prosecution.
