AMSTERDAM, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — You never know what you’re gonna see when the Friday night lights are shining. On paper, the meeting between Mohonasen and Amsterdam was a simple, non-league matchup in Class A. But what transpired was an epic clash that produced highlight-reel play after highlight-reel play, and culminated with a fourth quarter that alone was worth the price of admission.
When the dust of that whirlwind final stanza settled, Amsterdam emerged with a 35-34 victory; just holding off the Warriors in front of a home crowd that was treated to an absolute thriller.
The fourth-quarter fireworks began with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Mohon’s Mike Montanaro to Keyon Holmes that put the Warriors up 26-21.
But Amsterdam responded just two plays later. Jasiah Garcia broke free for a 65-yard touchdown run, reclaiming the Rams a 27-26 edge.
And Garcia wasn’t done. On Mohon’s next series, he picked off Montanaro, and returned it deep into Warriors territory.
The Mohon defense, in need of a stop, delivered with just that. Travon Morris recovered a fumble, getting the ball right back into the hands of the junior gunslinger, Montanaro, who quickly made amends for the interception.
