Schenectady Holiday Parade to have sensory friendly space at Proctors

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The Schenectady Holiday Parade is Nov. 23, and organizers are trying something a little different this year so more people can experience it. The county is partnering with the Crossroads Center for Children in Schenectady to create a sensory friendly space inside GE Theater at Proctors.

The parade will be projected onto a screen with the volume and lights turned down. One advocate said it will allow her family to experience the parade for the first time.

“The idea of bringing three kids, one with special needs, to a space that has a lot of people in close proximity can be really overwhelming,” mom and behavior analyst at Crossroads School for Children Megan DeFiores said. “It’s just so great to know that we’re being seen; that we’re being welcomed. “

The parade steps off at 5 p.m. in downtown Schenectady.
