Leeds Hose Co. #1 receives $1M in state funding

LEEDS, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — A local volunteer fire company received some state funding to upgrade their station. The Leeds Hose Company in Greene County was awarded $1 million for renovations.

Officials hope to expand the building so it is more accessible to people with disabilities. They will also replace their radio and siren tower. Local leaders said the changes will go a long way in keeping the community safe.

“Firefighters are an essential service, and it’s critical that we find sustainable ways to support,” Greene County Fire Coordinator John Farrell Jr. said. “By investing in volunteer departments, we reduce the financial strain on the community, like Leeds, while ensuring that we maintain a robust fire response capability.”

The funding is coming from the Volunteer Fire Infrastructure & Response Equipment (V-FIRE) Grant Program. V-FIRE supports volunteer fire departments statewide with grants for essential equipment and infrastructure upgrades to improve emergency response.
