Troy, NY – A Troy man was sentenced to 1.5 to 3 years behind bars in connection with a bomb threat involving school children. According to the Rensselaer County District Attorney’s office, 31-year-old Mathius Ortiz was at the intersection of Jefferson and Hill Street in Troy on April 19th. That’s when officials say a group of schoolchildren were getting off a school bus in the area when Ortiz told them he had a bomb. Ortiz then threw a metallic cylinder that had numbers and a clock timer.
