COEYMANS (NEWS10) — An unidentified woman is being hailed as a hero after paramedics credit her swift actions with potentially saving a life at a dirt bike race in Echo Valley on Sunday.

During the final race along the six-mile Echo Valley MX track, a competitor was thrown from his bike while navigating a jump, losing consciousness on impact. Witnesses report that a woman quickly jumped into action, administering CPR until emergency responders arrived.
Pat Boccio, Assistant Chief of Operations for the Ravena Rescue Squad, was one of the first responders on the scene. He described the urgency of securing the rider and preparing him for transport to either an ambulance or a helicopter.

“When we responded, we saw chest compressions being performed by a bystander, and the patient eventually regained consciousness, though he was in an altered mental state after the incident,” Boccio said. The bystander, who briefly identified herself as a registered nurse, left the scene shortly after meeting with responders. “I’m fairly confident that her quick response and compressions had a positive impact on the outcome,” Boccio added.
