SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — 12 Section 2 teams descended upon Saratoga Springs High School over two days for the girls volleyball sectional championships.
Two final matches were held Friday; another four Saturday, as the Class C, A, AA and AAA champions were all crowned.
Stillwater started the afternoon with an upset of top-seeded Galway to claim the Class C title, winning three sets-to-one. Class A’s Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake added another championship to its dynasty, taking down second-seeded South Glens Falls in straight sets. Shenendehowa swept Saratoga for the program’s second consecutive Class AAA title; fourth in a row overall. And fourth-seeded Niskayuna completed a Cinderella run through the Class AA bracket, besting No. 3 Bethlehem in a five-set thriller.
Stillwater and Galway met in last year’s championship match as well. Galway won that meeting three sets-to-none for the program’s fourth straight section title.
Stillwater would not allow the Golden Eagles to earn a fifth Saturday. After the Warriors secured the first set, 25-18, Galway evened the match by taking the second set, 18-25. Stillwater seized momentum, though, in a back-and-forth third set that went 25-23, and carried that right into the fourth set, putting the match away by a score of 25-15.
