Albany to see state police surge costing taxpayers $1M despite low crime rates

It’s not just investment money for capital projects heading to the City of Albany —

We learned today just before the State of the State address that if it goes through in the state budget, there will soon be a much larger police presence in Albany. NYS Homeland Security and Emergency Services Commissioner Jackie Bray tells CBS6 News that there will be a major increased New York State Police presence in Albany. She says “We are seeing some of the lowest crime rates that we have seen in many decades, but people need to feel thatwe are going to surge state police into downtown Albany as part of the work that we’re doing in coordination with the county and the city to really help revitalize downtown Albany.

We’ve done this successfully in other upstate cities to just get a handle on what I would call the street conditions, right?…So we’re going to be putting more state police resources into the city to help Albany PD make sure that people feel safe when they’re downtown.”…
