ALBANY, N.Y. (WRGB)— The city of Albany gathered to celebrate the enduring legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., reflecting on his foundational work toward racial equality and civil rights. The event, hosted by the New York State Office of General Services, featured guest speakers, live performances, and the premiere of a film tribute highlighting Dr. King’s life.
“This event that’s happening today is a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s life. New York State OGS, which is my agency, we have been leading the charge on behalf of the State of New York of honoring Dr. King and we’ve been doing this for 30 years. So every year we have been doing a great event like this where we’re pulling together community members and community leaders, leadership from the state, and certainly advancing some of these conversations around Dr. King’s life,” said New York State Commissioner Jeanette Moy.
Walter Mosely, Secretary of State and chairman of the New York State Commission on African American History, emphasized the importance of Dr. King’s teachings in everyday life. “Dr. King’s legacy is not just something that we just think about and kind of you know just talk about,” Mosely said. “But it’s something that should be a living and breathing organism within your own moral compass. How would we apply this to our everyday lives, and to our actions?”…
