Colonie ice cream stand under new ownership after 44 years

COLONIE, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Kurver Kreme, located at 1349 Central Avenue in Colonie, is under new ownership. Previous owner Cheryl Apple made the announcement in a Facebook post on Friday.

“It was a very hard decision,” Apple told NEWS10. “A heart-wrenching one. My family has poured our blood, sweat and tears into Kurver Kreme for 44 years.”

Apple said that her mother’s family has owned the land Kurver Kreme is on for about 185 years. Kurver Kreme was originally a Carvel where Apple’s parents met in 1951. It became Kurver Kreme in 1952. Apple’s parents bought the land from the rest of the family and the ice cream stand in 1980.

The new owners are Dave Hostig and Mark Wagner, who Apple is good friends with. Apple never officially listed the business for sale, but mentioned to Hostig and Wagner the possibility of selling, and they took her up on that offer.

“We knew they would continue Kurver’s legacy,” said Apple. “All the stars aligned.” She’s now looking forward to spending the summers with her family away from the ice cream stand…
