ALBANY — Striking correction officers began returning to work at multiple prisons across New York on Monday morning, signaling the possible end to a job walkout that began Feb. 17 and had paralyzed the operations of dozens of correctional facilities.
But officers at several facilities remained on strike, including a large number who were gathered outside Upstate Correctional Facility in Franklin County. A correction officer from western New York told the Times Union early Monday that officers at Upstate, Bare Hill, Governeur, Collins and Elmira prisons “are holds” and would not return.
“Currently, the facilities are managing the return of staff in order to accurately account for everyone,” said Thomas Mailey, a spokesman for the state Department of Corrections and Community Supervision. “We will have an update later today.”…
