NYSEG to offer public explanation of high utility bills

BEEKMANTOWN, N.Y. (WCAX) – A major New York utility wants to connect with customers to help provide transparency over high electricity rates.

New York State Electric and Gas is offering one-on-one sessions on Wednesday evening at the Beekmantown Town Hall to go over utility bills.

Officials say they have minimal control over rates because of New York ISO supply costs and that the colder winter led to increased use. “When it’s colder outside, your furnace has to kick on more often to maintain that temperature. So, we are seeing a lot more usage because of that,” said NYSEG’s Shelby Cohen…
