NY mental health commissioner faces no-confidence vote following attacks

ALBANY — The commissioner of the state Office of Mental Health is facing a no-confidence vote from one of New York’s largest public labor unions following a series of “violent assaults” on staff members at residential facilities.

The executive board of the Public Employees Federation, which represents more than 54,000 state workers, voted unanimously at their quarterly meeting in Colonie on Thursday to consider a no-confidence vote against Commissioner Ann T. Marie Sullivan. The vote is scheduled to take place when the board meets on June 12.

“The board spoke strongly and in unison because they are sick and tired of the lack of action by Commissioner Sullivan when it comes to addressing conditions in the agency that are leading to violent assaults against PEF members and other staff who work there,” union President Wayne Spence said…
