3 I-90 bridges to undergo replacement projects in Albany, Rensselaer Co.

ALBANY, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — Three I-90 bridges in Albany and Rensselaer counties will be undergoing replacement projects this year, the New York State Department of Transportation announced on Friday. The $6.7 million investment will target the Corporate Woods Boulevard bridge deck over the Thruway in Albany and two bridge decks on the Thruway westbound and eastbound over Van Hoesen Road in the town of Schodack.

The project, which is expected to be completed in November, will involve replacing bearings, joints, bridge rails, barriers and approaches, as well as painting girders and bearings and restoring concrete abutments. The improvements aim to enhance the bridges’ resiliency, safety, structural integrity, cost-efficiency and reduce future needed maintenance.

“For the nearly 25,000 vehicles relying on these Interstate bridges daily to get to work, school and recreational activities, this project will improve the movement of commerce and enhance the safety of three critical Capital Region bridge structures,” said NYSDOT Commissioner Marie Therese Dominguez.

Work is already underway at the Van Hoesen Road site, according to NYSDOT. The project’s first phase is focusing on repairing aging concrete on the eastbound and westbound abutments below the Thruway bridge decks. Shoulder closures will go into effect on Van Hoesen Road during this phase, which is expected to last around one month.
