A beloved New York weatherman recently took to social media to warn Hudson Valley and Albany residents of what he is calling “an impossible forecast” for the coming weekend.
“I haven’t seen something like this for a long time”, said Steve Caporizzo, a weather and news personality for News 10 in the capital region. Here’s what it can mean for Hudson Valley residents:
“Impossible” Weather Forecast for the Hudson Valley This Weekend
A quick glance at the current weather throughout the state gives some insight into the “impossible” task of anticipating what will happen this weekend. As Caporizzo explains, the close proximity of warm and cool temperatures make for a challenging forecast.
Extreme Temperature Differences in New York State
“I haven’t seen something like this for a long time, where there can be such an extreme temperature difference over a very short distance north-south”, said Caporizzo (below). This weekend, only a few miles could dictate your weekend plans.
Weather Front Divides New York State
On Saturday, temperatures could vary as much as 40 degrees in the state, with picnic weather in the Hudson Valley and wintry conditions north of Albany. What makes the forecast “impossible”, however, is determining where the dividing line will be.
What Makes Hudson Valley Weekend Forecast “Impossible”
Caporizzo says that the front, which is currently predicted to be over Albany, could actually end up either 50 miles north or south of the city, bringing the startling temperature divide with it. Sunday isn’t much clearer.
While the front is predicted to move south on Sunday to cool down the Hudson Valley, there is also a chance it will move back north, again cementing the difficulty of accurately predicting what weather will actually occur. To prepare, it could make sense for residents to pack a jacket as well as sandals when they head out the door.
